after life (1998)

Captures and portrays real emotion and humanity in a way I think only Kore-eda can. A gorgeous hodgepodge of documentary style with more conventional (but still fairly experimental) filmmaking that feels so warm. Seeing in 35mm is now (easily) my greatest theatrical experience. If you know a bit about the background behind the film, it can really enrich your experience. Still one of my favorites and I take something new from it each time. I’ll love it until I die.
